Bilantan Bird Feeder Review
If there’s one thing the grand world of social media algorithms got right, it’s my love for the simple things in life—plants (more specifically, hydroponics!), water, and the great outdoors. (And indeed, that’s what takes up a good chunk of my daily scrolling.) But one thing my brain hadn’t fully caught onto—or at least, wasn’t aware of yet—was birds!
Cue the dramatic music…
Am I a die-hard birdwatcher who knows everything there is to know about our feathery little friends? Absolutely not. But here we are in 2025, and my newsfeed was suddenly flooded with bird videos and smart bird feeders. Almost like clockwork, I started clicking. And boom—within 24 hours, I knew it was all over. I had discovered a new hobby that I needed to explore.
And then, almost as if the great bird cosmos had aligned, a company called Bilantan reached out and asked if I’d be interested in reviewing their smart bird feeder. Naturally, my answer was an immediate yes!
Now, did I believe I had the experience to properly review a bird feeder? Not really. So, I recruited my sister—a scientist, a teacher, and a true birdwatching connoisseur. Together, through the lens of both curiosity and experience, we put the Bilantan Smart Bird Feeder to the test.
Below, you’ll find what we loved, what we didn’t, and to cap it all off—a list of our feathery sightings so far.

Bilantan Smart Bird Feeder
What I Liked
The first thing that instantly caught our attention when unboxing the feeder? It’s solar powered!
For some reason—despite it being clearly pictured on their website—I hadn’t fully processed that detail. And let me tell you, it makes all the difference. We were able to hang it up near our backyard seating area with no need for an extension cord or external power. No fuss, no extra setup—just birds, right where we wanted them.
Another standout feature? The dual feeder design. The Bilantan setup includes a traditional seed trough, but also a hummingbird attachment at the base. So not only did we get to enjoy songbirds stopping by, but we also had hummingbirds hovering in for a sip. Watching both in action was an unexpected treat!
And then there’s the camera. The feeder comes equipped with a 3MP high-resolution night vision camera, capturing birds in stunning detail—whether it’s bright daylight or pitch-black night. The real-time notifications via the app meant we never missed a moment. Plus, the 8X magnification and AI-powered bird recognition (covering 6,000+ species) made us feel like birding pros, even as beginners.
The weatherproof design also deserves a mention. With a 2L food container and a sturdy build, this feeder keeps food dry and secure, even in unpredictable weather. And since it’s designed to be squirrel-resistant (and even lets you yell at the squirrels through your phone!), our winged visitors didn’t have to share their feast with any unwanted guests.
One of the most unexpected joys? Sharing the experience. The app lets you capture and share bird pictures and videos with friends and family, making it more than just a feeder—it’s a full-on birdwatching experience. You can even connect with a global birding community to discuss sightings, share clips, and stay updated on bird news.
A Few Improvements/Things to Be Aware Of
While it’ll take a bit more time to fully appreciate the feeder’s long-term performance—especially once hummingbird season kicks into full swing—there wasn’t much that we felt needed improvement. Overall, the Bilantan Smart Bird Feeder was fantastic, but here are a few things to keep in mind:
Some Features Require a Paid Plan – While the basics are free, certain features—like multiple users—require an upgrade. For example, only one person can receive real-time notifications, so if a squirrel invades or your favorite bird makes an appearance, only one person will get the alert.
Limited Free Video Storage – The feeder only saves 24 hours of video footage for free. If you want to access older recordings, you’ll need to upgrade and purchase additional storage.
No Cover Over the Seed Tray – The bird feed tray is exposed, meaning food can get soggy and wet when it rains. The birds don’t seem to mind, but we’ve noticed some seeds starting to sprout. A cover or slight design tweak could help with this.
Top Bird Sightings (So Far!)
Over the course of a month, we’ve had our fair share of bird sightings. Our most common visitors include the Tufted Titmouse, Goldfinches, Chickadees, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Doves, House Wrens, and Cardinals (although we do expect a slew of hummingbirds around April). Here are a few of our favorite sightings so far:
Finches
These small, lively birds bring a burst of energy to the feeder with their constant flitting and chirping. Their bright plumage—especially the vivid reds and yellows of certain species—makes them a joy to watch up close.
Cardinal
A true backyard favorite, male cardinals stand out with their striking red feathers, while the females display elegant, warm brown tones. Their sweet, whistling calls add a peaceful soundtrack to any birdwatching session.
Tufted Titmouse
These curious little songbirds are easily recognizable by their soft gray feathers, expressive black eyes, and signature tufted crest. They’re known for their playful nature and can often be seen darting in and out of the feeder, grabbing a seed before flying off to snack in peace.
Final Thoughts
The Bilantan Smart Bird Feeder has been a fantastic addition to our backyard, bringing both entertainment and a newfound appreciation for the birds that visit (even for those that aren’t very experienced like me!). From its solar-powered convenience to its high-resolution camera and AI bird recognition, it offers a modern and engaging way to experience birdwatching. While there are a few minor drawbacks—like limited free video storage and the uncovered seed tray—the overall experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
As the seasons change and more birds make their way to our feeder, we’re excited to see who else will stop by. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or just getting started (like us!), this feeder adds a fun, interactive, and educational element to your outdoor space. Happy birdwatching!
